Who to refer

I do my best work with adults and older teens (16+) who are motivated for weekly or biweekly therapy and are navigating one or more of the following:

Patients who are starting or adjusting psychiatric medication often benefit from concurrent therapy, and I'm glad to coordinate with the prescribing provider. Many of my clients are professionals who prefer telehealth because it fits around a full schedule.

Who I'd refer elsewhere

So you can match patients well, here is what falls outside my scope. I'm happy to help point these patients toward the right resource:

How to refer

Referrals can come from you, your care coordinator, or the patient directly. Whichever is easiest for your office:

  1. Send them my way. Give the patient this site, or email me at sam@strongmindtherapy.com with their name and the best way to reach them (with their permission). A warm handoff by email is welcome and usually gets a faster start than a name on a card.
  2. I reach out within one business day. The patient and I do a free 15-minute consultation to make sure it's a good fit, then schedule a first session, typically within a week or two.
  3. I close the loop. With a signed release, I'll confirm when the patient has started, share a brief note on treatment focus, and stay in touch on anything relevant to their medical care. If I'm not the right fit, I'll tell you and suggest who might be.

Coordinated care, both directions

I regularly refer clients out for psychiatric evaluation and medication management, primary care, and specialty services, and I'm always looking for trusted providers to send people to. If you'd like to be one of them, please reach out; a short phone call is often the easiest way to learn how we each work.
